Pride Month Reflections & Thoughts 2016

Here it is, the end of June, also known to the world as LGBT Pride Month, I sit here and reflect on the happenings that has taken place this month. First and foremost, we has one of the most tragic mass shootings in United States history down in Orlando at a gay nightclub. 49 people tragically died and over 50 injured, all because they were gay. The shooter happened to be an American Pro Isis fanatic and pledged his allegiance to the terrorist group in a 911 call he made before shooting up the nightclub. The very next day, at the Los Angeles Pride festival and parade, a man was caught with guns and explosives in his car right before the parade was going to start. A few other states made mention of some type of threat during their own pride festivals and they all beefed up police accordantly.

What did we do as a community? We stood together, like we always do. We became vocal about how we need to change gun laws here in America and that the violence needs to stop. Gay and Lesbian bashing needs to stop, Bisexual bashing needs to stop, Transgender bashing needs to stop. The one thing that the Orlando shooting has done has made the LGBT community voice louder. During the funeral of Orlando victims, there were a bunch of supporters who wore angel wings to block out the hateful Westboro Baptist Church from spewing their hate at the victims and their beloved ones. Best part about that, the idea came from an ally.

The equality fight will never die, as much as the right wing extremest try and keep us down. We will fight to be heard, we will fight to be safe, we will fight to be equal. In life, we are equal once we are born. We are human. Every single person on this earth bleeds when they are cut, cry when they something bad happens. That is what makes us human. Problem is, the human brain is something that soaks up information and can be conditioned to either support one another or it can be conditioned to hate. Can a human brain be changed to think differently? Yes. Hate a lot of times is a group thing, not an individual thing. Society tries to teach us that we should hate. That hate has been growing dimmer and dimmer over time. The LGBT community voice is strong. We will not be silent. We will continue to fight for our right to exist.

It does not matter if you are Gay. It does not matter if you are a Lesbian. It does not matter if you are Bisexual. It does not matter if you are Transgender. You are a human being. That right there, makes us equal, just like everyone else. Now, it is time to make them realize this.

Oh No! Not the Transexuals!!!

Let me start by saying, I am in no way a political person. I do not have ties to any one group. I am merely a mother, who cares about her children and practices the use of common sense.

So, here are some common sense point I think many people are missing with this whole “Transgenders are in my bathroom!” media blow up.

1. The new bill every one is referring to will NOT allow them to use the bathroom they see fit. It will STOP them from using the bathrooms they have deemed fit for themselves and have used all the years they have identified with their sex. This means you, yes you, have BEEN sharing a restroom with transgender people. Did it hurt you? No. Did you know? Not unless you are some form of pervert yourself.

Racial Controversy

Last weekend, the 6th annual celebration known as Dimebash, a charity concert which pays tribute to the late guitarist of Pantera and Damageplan, Dimebag Darrell Abbott, went down and one of the musicians there to help celebrate his life was former lead vocalist of Pantera, Phil Anselmo. Right here should tell you that something stupid happened. 

At the end his performance of Walk, one of Pantera’s top known songs (Rob Van Dam even had it has his ring entrance back in Extreme Championship Wrestling), the MC of the night was thanking Phil and the rest of musician for being there and for some odd and stupid reason, Phil goes ahead and gives the crowd the Nazi salute. See, told you it was stupid. After giving the salute, he actually had the balls to belt out in a true metal growl “White Power”, then walks off stage. 

Of course, Phil tried to pass it off saying it was an inside joke when he commented to the video showing his racial slur on YouTube. He commented:

“Ok folks, I’ll own this one, but dammit, I was joking, and the “inside joke of the night” was because we were drinking f—ing white wine, hahaha… Of all f—ing things. Some of y’all need to thicken up your skin. There’s plenty of f—ers to pick on with a more realistic agenda. I f—ing love everyone, I f—ing loathe everyone, and that’s that. No apologies from me. PHA ’16”.

This is not the first time he is linked to racism. Back in the 90’s, he supposedly gave a white pride speech during a Pantera show in California. Those videos are up on YouTube as well. 

Here is my issue, you are claiming you screamed white power because you were drinking white wine. Ok, for the sake of argument, let’s say that is true. Can you explain why you performed the Nazi salute then? On top of that, why did you think it was appropriate to actually do this at an event that not only helps a charity but honor a man you have claimed is your fallen brother? 

Seriously, you need your head examined if you really thought this was any type of normal.

Rocky Horror Picture Show Remake… Um…………

I think I just threw up a little just typing the word remake in front of what can be said as one of the top cult classics on this earth.

In 1973, Richard O’Brian wrote the book and music to a stage show call the Rocky Horror Show, was a satirical show about science fiction and B Horror movies. Two years later, it gets turned into a movie, titled Rocky Horror Picture Show. About a year later, the movie became a midnight showing, it’s people actually dressing up as their favorite character in the movie. 

Fast forward 40 years later. Today, Rocky Horror is still shown as a midnight showing with shadow casts performing the movie on a stage, with the movie playing in the background (if you are ever in NJ and want to see a midnight showing, I strongly recommend The Home of Happiness cast in Upper Montclair at the Belleview Theatre *Bow Tie Theatre* on Saturday Nights).

40 years in the box office has made Fox a lot of money. To date, the movie has made over $100 million in box office revenue. Yes, I know… It took over 40 years to do it but money is still money and that is a lot of it. With all this money Fox is making, you would think they would follow the rule “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”, but sadly, Fox has gone on and decided to remake RHPS for one of their musical specials (though not live, like their Greese Live special coming soon). The question is, why? During interviews, most of the cast had mentioned that they don’t think it should be done, loyal fans of the movie don’t want it done. So why in bloody hell is Fox doing this to us? 

I think my biggest gripe and question might be that this will be shown on Fox and not one of the cable channels (FX or FXX). Therefor, it must be watered down. Hell, when VH1 shows it yearly around Halloween, a small scene here and there go missing and obviously a few words get muted out. Now, let’s add the interesting pick they have as a cast.

• Lavern Cox as Dr. Frank -n-Furter
• Tim Curry as The criminologist
• Victoria Justice as Janet Weiss
• Ryan McCartan as Brad Majors
• Reeve Carney as Riff Raff
• Adam Lambert as Eddie

So we are still missing a Columbia and a Magenta. Lavern Cox…. As a transvestite… Fox I get where you are coming from and I applaud you for the effort. However, Lavern Cox looks to feminine for the role. Yes, she is a very well known Transgender actress but Frank -n-Furter is supposed to look like a male dressed in drag. You got popular Nickelodeon star Victoria Justice as Janet. Ok, she is a great singer but I don’t know if she can pull off the naive-ness that the role calls for. Adam Lambert, who was their first choice for Frank is now playing Eddie. They should have stuck with their first idea. He would at least have made a good Frank -n-Furter. Last, Tim Curry. Why Tim Why? Fox putting him in the movie is just a ploy to get RHPS faithfuls to watch. However, Tim is wheelchair bound at the moment, so when Time Warp comes around, shall be interesting to see how they play that off. 

Fox, I love you, you gave me the Simpson and Family Guy but you make me cry with this. PLEASE DO NOT FUCK IT UP!!!

It’s a New Day, yes… wait… no, it is A New Year!!

If you are a WWE fan, you might get my reference in the title…

It is 2016!! New Year usually means new years resolutions. I do not believe in those, well, calling them that at least. I set goals for myself each year and usually not the whole “i am going to lose weight and eat healthier” (though technically, it is a goal of mine) but small goals that I feel I need to change within myself. One being dressing more as Kathryn. This is a bit of a hard one as I do work Full Time and when I am at home, I am usually getting into my pjs and when I go out, which is infrequent, only 1/3 of the times, I go out as my female side, which I actually prefer.

Another goal is expand myself artistically. If you have read post blogs or have me on Facebook or Twitter (@darkmindedone), you have seen my past artwork ranging from spray painted work I have done on wood to moving to actual canvas to my recent work that I just completed with my boyfriend (a Tetris board shelving unit… i will post a pic below this blog). This year, I want to learn also to possibly weld or something. As long as I expand on my art, I will be happy.

Last goal (which actually goes back into my last blog about that certain update), I am going to start a You Tube Channel… then eventually a podcast. What this You Tube channel will be about is still being worked on. I am thinking a news style show mixed with my opinions (think Philip DeFranco) but with my own flare to it and possibly more entertainment stuff but will probably add social media news and such as well. Now, with this, I also will be moving blog addresses. The new address will be thedarkonespeaks.wordpress.com. I am going to  keep this blog to still quickly say something  but any time I will post a video, it will go on that page. Other things are forming with all that (like picking a name for the show… i loath that part of the process) but this update will end with to be continued…

I would be amiss if I didn’t mention the tragic year we already are having. Just in 2016 alone, we lost:

David Bowie *Musician/Actor (cancer)

Alan Rickman *Actor (cancer)

Pat Harrington, Jr.*Actor from Once Day at a Time (alzheimer’s and complications from a fall)

David Margulies *Actor from Ghostbuster (unknown as of this blog)

Tera Wray *Porn actress that was the widow of Wayne Static from Static-X (suicide)

Brian Bedford *Voice actor of the original Robin Hood cartoon movie (cancer)

Rene Angelil *Music producer, was the husband of Celine Dion (cancer)

Dan Taggerty *Actor (cancer)

Glenn Frey *Musician from Eagles (complications from surgery)

… and these are just in January. It started in December when Scott Weiland died of an overdose of drugs and mixed it with alcohol. You also have Lemmy (cancer), Natalie Cole (heart failure) and Wayne Rogers (pneumonia) in December as well. There are plenty of other semi-famous names as well who have died but the list is already long as it is. The most sad part is that majority have died from some type of Cancer (6 to be exact). My friend, after his mom passes on from her battle with Cancer would use the hashtag fuck cancer. Something I gracefully and willingly adopted because it is an evil disease that I wish they could find a cure for all of them but it unfortunately life doesn’t work that way. All in all, I mourn with the rest of the world and with those tragically hurt and heartbroken families who have suffered with these losses. #fuckcancer

Talented with a troubled soul

The afterlife just gained a new member to its band, Scott Weiland. He had such a unique voice, which helped bring Stone Temple Pilots to levels of rock star status. He, unfortunately, had his demons. His drug use was very public, which hindered him and eventuually led him to being kicked out of STP. He had been in and out of rehab but they only really help if the person has the willpower to quit, which sadly, he did not.

Scott was tragically found dead in his motor home, while on tour with his current band, on December 3rd.

Rest In Peace Scott. I truly hope your soul finds the peace it was looking for.

Small update

So I have been somewhat quiet lately and not posting as much as I used to. This is because I have something cooking that I don’t want to spoil. When the time comes, I will make an announcement. Just sit there and relax, you might like the announcement 🙂

It’s The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

It is that time of year again!!!! No, not Christmas… even though companies are starting to show their holiday commercials already (to them I say shame on you… and I even work for one of those retailers!), I am talking about a Pagans favorite holiday, Halloween!!! All Hallow’s Eve, Samhein, Pagan New Year, just some of the few names that this day goes by for Pagans. It is a day we celebrate life and the souls who have passed on. For me, each year, I celebrate life by asking the universe for one simple wish, a wish I have asked for each year for the past 10 years, fpr people to hate less. That simple. As someone who believes in Human Rights (not just LGBT or Women’s rights as some may think), I want everyone to have equal rights. Granted, a lot comes from the LGBT side of everything as I would wish for Gay & Transgender individuals to stop being harassed and beaten or even murdered by other members of the human race. Hell, there are a lot of Trans folk who use Halloween to be themselves in public. We shouldn’t need a day for this. We should be able to be the gender who we feel we should be every day. Women to this day, still do not get equal pay, not even in Hollywood. Religion tends to get in the way and has people hating a different religious group. It is just sad that war has happened over religion in many parts of the world. So on Halloween, my wish is to have people learn and start to accept one and all as equals.
The bottom line is that we are first and foremost, HUMAN.
