It is that time of year again. The list of lists! The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced their nomination list. Before I list it, let me list the rules of how you can be even nominated. To be considered for induction in the the Hall of Fame, an artist has to have their first single 25 years prior to the nomination. This year, there are a lot of artists that have made the list for the first time of their career and a few of them, this is their first time that they are eligible for a nomination. Once the list is made, ballots are sent to over 800 artists, music historians and other members of the music industry (record producers and such). A few years ago, the Hall of Fame has started to allow fans to cast a vote. As of today and going on till December 5th, you can cast who you want to vote for. Go to rockhall.com to find out more and cast your own vote. With that said, here are your nominees….

  1. Bad Brains
  2. Chaka Khan
  3. Chic
  4. Depeche Mode
  5. ELO
  6. J. Geils Band
  7. Jane’s Addiction
  8. Janet Jackson
  9. Joan Baez
  10. Joe Tex
  11. Journey
  12. Kraftwerk
  13. MC5
  14. Pearl Jam
  15. Steppenwolf
  16. The Cars
  17. The Zombies
  18. Yes
  19. Tupac Shakur

Yep, You read #19 correctly. Tupac Shakur has gained a nomination. Now, I get why. Tupac’s music is still very popular to this day. When I first read this list, I scratched my head because last time I checked, this is the ROCK AND ROLL Hall of Fame. Then I remember last year, N.W.A. got the nod and was put in. You can also say that someone like Michael Jackson shouldn’t be in there because he isn’t rock either. So, I digress and accept it and move on.

Now, there is a lot of talk with this list as to an artist once again looked over, that artist (band) is Bon Jovi. Here is a band who has been around for over 30 years, numerous hits and is still going to this day, has yet to ever be nominated to join the Hall of Fame. This is something of a tragedy in my eyes. Granted, I am a tad bias, I live in New Jersey, the home of Bon Jovi. Of course, they are not the only to get constantly snubbed. Motorhead, Megadeth, Motley Crue and Iron Maiden, just to name a few, have all been snubbed as well. All 5 of these bands have contributed to music WAY more than a lot of people on this years list, yet no where to be found each year. Can’t be that they are still active for a few reasons. First, Motley Crue is retired and Lemmy from Motorhead has passed away. Secondly, even though Bon Jovi, Iron Maiden and Megadeth are all touring constantly and even still creating albums. So why have they been snubbed?!? Only the Hall of Fame execs truly know. All I know is all these bands listed, should be front runners for next years ballot.
